Tradition first !The Gaggio velvets are first softened and hand dyed, then dried, bruched and ironed. This process gives them a very special vividness and a mysterious deepness to the colours. They just vibrate to the light !
Even in plain colour, their decorative power is extraordinary.
Then comes the printing process, also hand made with engraved wood blocks that are hand painted with coloured, golden or silver pigments. The patterns give then the feeling that they float on the surface. An almost unreal contrast.
Each pattern has its own history, most of the time taken from frescos' or paintings' details. It's an artistic journey that begins at the 13th century and brings us to the Art Deco of the 30's. An international fameeach step of our work is the result of a rigorous craftsman trade, adapting the techniques of yesterday to nowadays requirements. Such a work gives to the fabric a rare elegance and the possibility to be used either for interior decoration or ready to wear : available on order per yard, our collections are then turned into cushions, majestic and luminous wallhangings, bedspreads, stoles...
